Shanghai-Berlin: exchange of innovative climate change solutions

Urban regions represent a vital prerequisite for sustainable economic development and at the same time need to be prepared to cope with climate change. Shanghai and Berlin are both leading by example, being modern and innovative metropolises that are contributing to climate change solutions and paving the way to a more sustainable future.

For the exchange of know-how and solutions between Shanghai and Berlin, the Berlin Brandenburg Energy Network e.V. (BEN) is organising a Sustainable Companies and Cities Forum on April 19th at the ZhangJiang Hi-Tech Park / XNode in Shanghai on behalf of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce (IHK).

The Sustainable Companies and Cities Forum focuses on climate change-related business opportunities and cases in Shanghai and Berlin, and on how cities need to foster sustainable innovation and remove potential barriers. The forum is linked to a business delegation tour by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and brings together entrepreneurs from both cities with city officials, policymakers, as well as legal and financial experts for presentations and discussions.

Prior to the event, the Berlin Brandenburg Energy Network e.V. organized a pitch competition for Berlin-based cleantech start-ups. The two winners of the contest – Infinite Fingers and Smart Cloud Farming – travel to Shanghai and get the unique opportunity to pitch their business idea to partners and investors attending the forum.

BEN Vice President Christian Gräff says “China has become an absolute startup hotspot. Despite cultural differences, German founders can learn a lot from the Chinese startup ecosystem. For the winning startups the business forum is a great opportunity to present their business ideas and build up their network in China.“.
