About the BB Energy Network

The Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Network e.V. (BEN) acts as an intermediary between business, politics, and science to promote solutions for the effective implementation of the energy transition in the region and supports entrepreneurial activities of the industry.

Founding of the BEN e.V.

At the beginning of 2010, Berlin-based companies in the solar industry met for the first time to exchange ideas. The occasion was in particular the debate about the changes in the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

Since the beginning as Berlin Solar Network in July 2010, a lot has changed: We have opened up regionally towards Brandenburg and in terms of content towards the entire renewable energy sector. Today, our members are spread along the entire renewable energy value chain.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Network was funded proportionally with half federal and half state funds within the framework of the Joint Task "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure" (GRW).

Goals and fields of action

The Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Network e.V. is the association of renewable energy and related scientific institutions in the capital region. It thus acts as the Berlin-Brandenburg umbrella programme.

  • We promote the exchange of views between science, industry and politics.
  • We advocate for reliable legal framework conditions.
  • We support the further development of the industry and are equally committed to creating new jobs and preserving existing ones.
  • We inform the public about the advantages and potential uses of renewable energies.
  • We help our members with their internationalization projects by providing valuable contacts.
  • The main goal of our network: the joint implementation of the energy transition in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

What does BEN e.V. advocate?

One of the great advantages of renewable energy is decentralized generation.

Nowadays, this generation on houses, offices and industrial plants even balances peak loads. The roofs and open spaces on district and state-owned buildings, and not least those of companies in which the state of Berlin and the state of Brandenburg have a stake, have enormous potential for renewable energy. Regional companies are to be given preference in the tenders for these areas. Along the entire value chain, all the way to the skilled trades, enormous economic effects and jobs are thus created when systems are installed in the German metropolitan region.

A Renewable Energy Industry Research and Development Pact for all R&D facilities in the Capital Region.

The unique research landscape in Berlin is a locational advantage for Berlin and contributes significantly to the value creation of the region. The institutes not only attract students to Berlin, but also create direct jobs in the renewable energy sector and provide the necessary skilled labor potential in the capital region and Germany. This is what enables industry to settle in Berlin in the first place. Under the leadership of the Senator for Economic Affairs, all senate administrations involved, and with the involvement of the federal government's institutions, are to establish financial framework conditions for the institutes for the next ten years. Only in this way is a coordinated and sustainable research and development policy possible.

Development of a "learning factory" in which training and further education in a wide range of professions can take place together with industry and the skilled trades.

Education and training are important for the capital region. Only if sufficient skilled workers are available in addition to scientific training will the region be able to generate further settlements. This requires further development of the training system and a unique selling point.

Sustainable and long-term support of development and settlement areas for research and industry, in particular expansion of Adlershof and the CleanTech Business Park Berlin-Marzahn.

Berlin wants to use the Master Plan Industry to expand the city's industrial base again. We explicitly welcome this. With the existing industrial companies along the value chain, Berlin has a very good basis. But this development also requires reliable framework conditions. This includes the provision and expansion of suitable sites. For a program tailored to the renewable energy sector for solid growth abroad.

The companies in Berlin and Brandenburg along the renewable energy value chain are a good trademark for the German capital region.

Advertising for the region is advertising for these companies and vice versa. In order to successfully attract new companies to the capital region, these companies are the best ambassadors. Joint trips with the highest representatives of the city benefit the region and companies. The distribution of products from the Capital Region creates jobs in the capital.
